20,000 free pads and tampons.
And counting. Period.

20,000 free period products have been dispensed from Victoria’s first free pads and tampons vending machines! We know pads and tampons aren’t a luxury and are essential to health and wellbeing. Victorians should be able to access them whenever and wherever they need to.

That’s why the Victorian Government is making free pads and tampons available across the state.

About the free pads and tampons program

Our nation-leading $23 million commitment to provide free pads and tampons across Victoria has now reached the end of its stage one rollout phase.

During this phase, 50 free pads and tampons vending machines have been installed in public places across metropolitan Melbourne. These machines have dispensed more than 20,000 free period products and counting, providing important wellbeing and cost of living supports for Victorians. The statewide launch will soon be underway. All local government areas (LGAs) were consulted and requested to nominate venues to ensure coverage across the state.

The menstrual cycle

The four phases of the menstrual cycle are menstruation, the follicular phase, ovulation and the luteal phase.

The menstrual cycle is a natural process. It is a complex cycle controlled by female hormones that cause regular bleeding (periods).
